Today, we are launching Virtual NorthShore, a virtual race to accompany the 25th Annual NorthShore Inline Marathon scheduled for September 19, 2020 in Duluth, MN. We plan to include this virtual option annually moving forward, to be held in conjunction with the in-person NorthShore Inline Marathon & Skate Fest. Please continue reading for our plans for 2020, and details on our new virtual event.
The good news is that the 2020 NorthShore Inline Marathon and Skate Fest is still set for September 19, and race registration is open for the in-person event as well as Virtual NorthShore. Due to the global pandemic potentially causing a risk to the health of our host city Duluth’s residents, NorthShore participants, volunteers, staff and spectators, we have outlined a plan for 2020 race registrants.
If the 2020 NorthShore Inline Marathon and Skate Fest is forced to cancel the in-person event:
This is an incredibly tough situation, financially and for the spirit of our staff and board of directors, and although NorthShore is not canceled and there is certainly a fair chance that we can hold the event “as normal”, we ask that you help preserve our non-profit organization by avoiding requesting a refund (if you have purchased the race insurance package), and by please utilizing the option of participating in our virtual event if we do have to implement that plan.
We are racers ourselves. We get it. Virtual events are not as fun as the real thing. But if we are forced to cancel the 2020 race as we all know it, by participating in our virtual event you are helping preserve NorthShore Inline Marathon, Inc. by easing our critical financial burden during this unprecedented global pandemic crisis. Also, you are supporting the local businesses that we contract with to print shirts, finisher medals, and athlete guides.
We are waiting for advice from our strategic partners: the City of Duluth, Two Harbors, Saint Louis County, Lake County, MN Department of Transportation, Duluth Police Department, Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, our medical partner St. Luke’s, and Voyageur Bus Company on how we will be able to hold a physical event on September 19, 2020.
Information on Virtual NorthShore can be found at northshoreinline.com/virtual-northshore, and registration is available now for all of our events. Any questions or concerns can be sent to Race Director Mike Ward at firstname.lastname@example.org.
