Runners will follow the same course as the half marathon skaters. During the Wheel’s Off Half Marathon runners will race through the I-35 tunnels, which is completely unique to NSIM’s race course.

RACE PACKETS & CHIPS
Race packets may be picked up from noon Friday, Sept. 13, until 10 p.m. at Pioneer Hall in the DECC and Saturday at the bus loading area from 5:00 to 6:00 a.m. Chip timing equipment will be available Friday. “Chip volunteers” will be on hand to answer any questions.
TIMING
Your race packet contains an envelope with a ChampionChip, a transmitting device for timing. Please read the specific instructions on the envelope to learn how to attach the ChampionChip on your shoe.
BIBS
Your race packet contains a color-coded numbered bib. The large bib should be pinned to your chest or abdomen area and NOT on the legs or hips. Do not fold, wrinkle, or alter these numbers.
GRANDMA’S SPORTS GARDEN PASTA BUFFET
“RULES OF THE ROAD”
All runners must cross the finish line at 13.1 miles with a time of three hours and fifteen minutes (3:15:00). There will be a sag wagon that will pick up ALL RUNNERS ON THE COURSE AFTER 10:15 AM. The course must be completely cleared of all runners to allow the full marathon inline skaters priority, who could have an estimated finish time of 10:30 am.
WARMING UP ON THE COURSE
Runners will NOT be allowed on the course heading SOUTH of the start line. Runners may warm up heading NORTH towards Two Harbors on scenic 61. Southern warm-ups will be for inline skaters only.
PARKING
Friday and Saturday daily parking at the DECC is available for a $5 fee. The DECC also offers overnight parking for single vehicles ($10/night) & RV’s (electric hook-up ($35) or non-electric sites ($25)). More information is available at www.decc.org or by calling (218) 722-5573, ext.283. There is some free parking in the area however, it is limited. No parking will be available at the start area! All participants, other than those staying in Two Harbors, are strongly urged to take the shuttle buses to the start line.
BUSES
There is no parking available at the start line of the half marathon events.
The Inline Half Marathon and Wheels Off Half Marathon buses begin loading at 5:00 am from the DECC.
Full Marathon buses begin loading at 7:00 am from the DECC. Please board promptly to insure that everyone arrives at the start lines on time. Ideal loading sequence is as follows…

For those coming from Two Harbors, it is permissible to be dropped off at the Two Harbors Ford lot. These skaters must ride a shuttle to the bus unloading area. Due to insurance requirements, NO SKATES may be worn on the buses.

WATER
Water will NOT be available at the start line. Water bottles will be provided at water stations along the course at 1 mile, and 6 miles, and 10 miles. You may require more water or energy (food) during the event, please carry it with you and dispose of it properly. If you slow or stop at a water station, please stay to the right to avoid collisions and congestion. Please make every effort to discard water bottles in the mile marker/trash barrels prior to the interstate or carry it with you until the finish. Bottle caps dropped on the road are dangerous for following skaters. The NSIM does not supply food or energy replacement products on the course.
RACE DAY FOOD BY SUPER ONE FOODS
A fabulous array of bananas, apples, oranges, cookies and yogurt and 20,000 bottles of water all generously donated by SUPER ONE FOODS will be available at the finish line. Please support SUPER ONE FOODS, PREMIUM WATERS and Franklin Foods. They’ve been amazing supporters of us!
TOILETS
Porta-potties will be provided near the half marathon start area and at the 6-mile mark (Lester River Bridge). The future of this race depends on participants respecting the property and rights of area residents and businesses. If nature calls, please use the available toilets.

MEDICAL SUPPORT
First aid will be available on the course and in Pioneer Hall by the finish line. There will be vans and motorcycles on the course with medical personnel. These vans and motorcycles will be marked and will carry orange flashing lights and a siren. Please move aside for these vehicles. It is imperative that they be allowed to move quickly and safely. All medical expenses incurred by participants are the responsibility of the participant.
GEAR BAGS
Gear bags are provided for shoes and warm-up clothing. Your bag must be tied securely and have your race number and name visibly written on it in indelible marker. Race officials will not be sweeping the course and will not be responsible for items left along the course. Place your gear bag in the trucks provided at the start. Do not place any valuables or sharp objects in your bag. We appreciate your patience at the finish line and we will do our best to retrieve and sort the gear bags in a timely manner.
PROTEST
Should you have a protest; forms will be provided on the preliminary results board and the Information Booth. All protests must be entered by 12:00 noon on race day. Race judges will resolve protests involving awards prior to the awards ceremony.
AWARDS CEREMONY
The top 3 ‘Half Marathon’ finishers in each gender specific age class will be awarded an engraved medallion, in recognition of their impressive accomplishment at the Half Marathon Award ceremony which will commence at 4 p.m. in Pioneer Hall at the DECC. The Full Marathon award ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. Awards must be picked up at this time. Awards will not be mailed.

Registration for Sept. 13, 2014 Wheels Off Half Marathon will have a race day entry special available at the DECC September 15th for $59 AND available on our website until Monday at 11:59pm.
